Can someone give me a link to a website that shows the growth curve of green beans(or any plants) in cotton wool and in soil? Also pictures taken after 1st week,2nd week,...,etc.

funny thing is>if u combined the cotton wool AND the soil and gave it a little time, it WOULD transform into a usable form of nutrients for the plant and so it would eventually be able to grow something.

cotton is about 15% nitrogen by weight. hair is the same so i am gussing that wool is too. nitrogen is mostly what the soil needs to grow

^ and that is your N-P-K that the plant needs. the trace minerals are to be found in the soil just like the potassium (granite is 2 - 7 % potassium).

Green beans are a legume. That means they have a certain type of chloroplast/cyanobacteria that lives in them that can get it's nitrogen from the air. Those bacteria are the ones who make the chlorophyll and so grow the plant. To actually produce a whole green bean plant off of it they cannot (i think i read peas can get 10% of their nitrogen needs from the air maybe beans are the same).

some simple mosses can support themselves on the nitrogen in air i think? and some cyanobacteria can support themselves the same way, independent of a plant structure.
