Can my Wedding Dress be altered without ruining it?
I bought this dress in an 8 and it fits, but I am so short it is 7" too long! Apparently they are made long to accomodate tall brides. Anyway, there are like 3 layers of chiffon, beads, and the beautiful hemlines of the layers. I hope the picture is clear enough... Do you think this dress can be altered by a bridal seamstress? David's Bridal said they could do it, but I am very nervous about trusting them after hearing all the horror stories about expense and ruined dresses.

I thought that they might try to take it off at the waist, but there is no joint seam, you know? The chiffon starts at the top and flows down in a smooth sheet. Would they add a seam, you think?
well basically they alter it at the waist and take the length off there, not the hem. ask other brides you know who have gotten married recently and find another seamstress or tailor if you can besides david's bridal. I've never had a bad experience there personally but I've heard they're difficult. I have 2 dresses from there but got them altered elsewhere.
